last tuesday, I unwrapped
myself.
naked right down to my needy to feel the wind of human hurt, I lick my index, strip away callouses, and hold high raw hands to learn the way these winds blow, but east or west it’s freezing cold. I lay my shivering yarns in heaps, counting frayed and tangled ends of me until, with wind-swept hair, people come to nestle here, and bring their string. I count theirs too, and breathe the wind of sorry for my needy- of shame for all my mess- but they whisper through the stitches: we know naked, know your yarn, breathe your wind, sit your loom– we see your tapestry. so wrapped in this I label shelves for each of our spools as I weep and weep. not just naked making messes– no sorrow for our need– I didn’t know that we could weave |
